DOVER — A 17-year-old Dover male was charged with first-degree murder following a shooting Wednesday.
Dover police spokesperson Master Cpl. Ryan Schmid said officers were called to a report of shots fired at a residence in the 400 block of River Road at 10:26 a.m.
Inside the home, they located Randy Bolden, 54, of Seaford, who had sustained a gunshot wound to his upper body, police said. Officers and emergency medical personnel rendered aid until the man was transported to Bayhealth Hospital, Kent Campus in Dover, where he was pronounced dead.
Police determined that the man who died and the juvenile were involved in a verbal and physical altercation at the house, Cpl. Schmid said. During the incident, the teen obtained a firearm and shot the victim, he added.
The suspect then left the residence before officers arrived.
The juvenile turned himself in at the Dover Police Department about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. He was taken into custody without further incident.
He was also charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, then committed to the Stevenson House Detention Center, Milford, on $535,000 cash bail.
