SALISBURY — After Thanksgiving is Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday. But nonprofits are focused on Giving Tuesday, and the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore through its Shore Gives More campaign encourages charitable donations to organizations in the tri-county area on Tuesday, Dec. 3.
Contributions are already being accepted online at the shoregivesmore.org website and several Somerset County-based nonprofits are participating. They include:
Smith Island United, the Crisfield-Smith Island Cultural Alliance, the Crisfield Heritage Foundation, the Crisfield Arts & Entertainment District, the Greater Crisfield Action Coalition, and It Takes a Village to Help Our Children Inc.
Also accepting donations are the Humane Society of Somerset County, the Somerset County Historical Society, the Somerset County Historical Trust, and the Somerset Lynching Memorial Project – Truth & Reconciliation Committee.
Others include Main Street Princess Anne, the UMES Foundation, Catholic Charities-Seton Center, and the Garland Hayward Youth Center. All of the organizations are listed online with links for more details.
Through the online portal all major credit cards as well as echeck/ACH, Google Pay and Apple Pay are accepted for amounts of $10 or more. Donations are tax-deductible and represent unrestricted funds for the chosen charity. Donors can use a shopping cart to contribute to more than one organization.
This is the first time that the Community Foundation is covering all processing fees so 100% of donations will go to the selected nonprofit. In addition, through a grant from the Richard A. Henson Foundation, for every $2 an organization raises, an additional $1 will go to the participating charity.
