LEWES — A 51-year-old Lewes man was charged with a seventh-offense DUI after allegedly driving a motor vehicle he stole from a Jiffy Lube, Delaware State Police spokeswoman Master Cpl. Heather Pepper said.

Authorities alleged that David A. Cathell entered a 2014 Toyota Camry set to be serviced at the business at 34680 Jiffy Way and began driving northbound on Coastal Highway. A trooper was patrolling the area for the stolen vehicle and located it on Coastal Highway, north of Broadkill Bridge, DSP said.

A stop was initiated as the car turned into a private driveway on Deep Branch Road. Police said Mr. Cathell was taken into custody without incident, and a strong odor of alcohol was emanating from him.

Mr. Cathell was also charged with motor vehicle theft, second-degree criminal trespass, breach of conditions of bond, driving while suspended or revoked and failure to signal. He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 3, Georgetown, and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution, Georgetown, on a $24,201 cash bond.
