Seasonal Second Saturday at DCA for December

Posted

Dorchester Center for the Arts invites everyone to a seasonal Second Saturday reception on Dec. 10, from 5-7 p.m.

Enjoy festive refreshments, music and the opportunity to meet featured artists participating in the Merry Market. These artists are displaying their hand-crafted items such as jewelry, fiber art, woodworking, candles and more. Even holiday treats will be featured, like those from T’s Divine Sweets. Take selfies on the bench at the special market art in the Wilson Gallery, custom created by Lee Reece. Children can visit the classroom to make self-portrait art to place in clear ornaments and take home. And all those that attend in their favorite “ugly” holiday sweater can enter to win a generous gift certificate for the DCA Gift Shop. The winner will be drawn at 7 p.m., and must be present to win.

Music will be provided by Jonathan “JMor” Morris, a DJ and music artist originally from Salisbury, who currently resides in Bowie. He has 12 years of experience as a DJ and 16 as a music artist/producer. JMor is a member of the Key DJ’s team based in Glen Burnie and was the 2017-2018 UMES Battle of the DJs Winner. Aside from DJing, he plays three instruments including bass guitar, drums and piano. He has two music projects currently on all major platforms. Find him by searching “jmorlyfe” on Google or on Instagram: @jmorylfe. Jonathan is also a teacher in Anne Arundel County and runs an after-school program where he teaches his students how to DJ, as well as compose and produce songs. Recently Jonathan provided DJ services for the Hoopers Island Chalk Festival.

Keep the holiday spirit going with the free Chorus of Dorchester concert “It’s Christmastide Again” at DCA on Tuesday, Dec. 13, at 7 p.m., followed by the holiday show on Dec. 16 from 6-7:30 p.m. with flutist Ashley Watkins and pianist Maris Wicker. Admission is $12 for DCA members, $15 for non-members.

For more information and registration for these programs and additional activities at the Dorchester Center for the Arts, stop by 321 High Street, call 410-228-7782 or visit online at dorchesterarts.org. DCA is open Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Thursday, noon to 8 p.m.; and Second Saturday until 8 p.m. Please note that DCA will be closed for the holiday season from Dec. 24-Jan. 3. Programs at DCA are supported by the Maryland State Arts Council. Find DCA on Facebook.
