CRISFIELD — The fourth annual SchooLARS 4 STEM free summer robotics and golf camp for students in grades 5-11 is now accepting applications for its “Mission to Mars: Navigating With a Robotic Arm.”

Students will build and maneuver a robotic rover equipped with a camera, sensors and robotic arm to help NASA’s future mission to the red planet. In addition, there will be time to learn the fundamentals of golf from PGA professionals. Snacks and lunch are provided.

The program is held over four Saturdays, June 21, 28, July 5 and 12 starting at 8:30 a.m. at the Ocean City Golf Club in Berlin with transportation for Somerset County participants leaving from Crisfield High School, the Marion firehouse, and Washington High School.

Registration and more information are online or contact schoolars4stem@gmail.com or 410-251-8821.

The success of the summer camps and its programs has been growing each year since it started in 2022. In 2023 one of the participants helped organize a golf team at Crisfield High School, and the 2024 camp which focused on drones “exceeded all expectations, proving to be the camp with the greatest utility for our growing SchooLAR community,” wrote co-founder and Executive Director Nicole Turner.

Some 40 students took part last year, with class size this year limited to 45. Registration closes May 30.
