Roundup: Smyrna posts North hockey win over Dover

Smyrna High downed Dover, 5-2, in Henlopen North field hockey on Tuesday evening.

The Eagles evened their record at 1-1 in the North while improving to 3-1 after bouncing back from their first loss of the season.

The Senators dropped to 1-1 in the North, 2-2-1 overall after having a two-game winning streak snapped.

Polytech 1, Milford 0: Megan Popp’s fourth-quarter goal gave the Panthers the Henlopen North win.

Raegan Thomas had five saves for Polytech, which out-shot the Buccaneers, 12-4, and held a 14-3 edge in corners.

Eve Sekscinski had a pair of saves for Milford.

Sussex Tech 3, Caesar Rodney 1: The Ravens rallied from an early 1-0 deficit to earn the Henlopen North victory.

Madison Short, Karli Penrod (1 assist) and Tori Adams all scored goals for Sussex Tech, which out-shot the Riders, 11-7. The Riders held a 14-8 advantage in corners.

CR got a goal from Peyton Shields and six saves from Bailey Minear.

Delmar 12, Seaford 0: The Wildcats tallied three goals in each quarter before improving to 4-0 with their fourth straight shutout.

Freshman Laela Brown collected three goals and an assist while Jordyn Hollamon and Maci Bradford both had two goals and an assist. Eight different players scored for Delmar.

Seaford’s Madelyn Breitenbach made 28 saves.

Boys’ soccer

Sussex Central 2, Cape Henlopen 1: The Golden Knights scored in overtime to edge the Vikings in a Henlopen North matchup.

Central finished with advantages of 20-8 in shots and 7-3 in corner kicks. Ibrahim Leyva-Fojaco made seven saves.

Cape’s Dalson Case made 11 saves with Dru Schneider adding five.

Caesar Rodney 9, Sussex Tech 0: Ethan Reid netted two first-half goals with Trevor Sullivan scoring twice in the second half of the Riders’ North victory.

Six players scored for CR, which won its fourth game in a row. The Riders posted advantages of 25-3 in shots and 13-2 in corner kicks.

Ronin Mozingo had 15 saves for the Ravens.

Indian River 6, Lake Forest 0: Jordan Illian (2 assists) netted first-half goals six minutes apart to spark the Indians to the Henlopen South victory.

Connor Bird, Joseph Cordoba Serna, Dominic Delaney and Luke Veirs also scored for IR, which held advantages of 24-6 in shots and 3-2 in corner kicks.

Jackson Massey made 10 saves for the Spartans.

Laurel 5, Woodbridge 2: The Bulldogs netted three first-half goals before improving to 4-0 with the Henlopen South victory.

Delmar 5, Seaford 3: The Wildcats took a 2-0 halftime lead before registering the Henlopen South victory.

Volleyball

Cape Henlopen 3, Sussex Academy 0: The Vikings improved to 2-0 with the 25-12, 25-19, 25-14 victory.

Cape was led by Rileigh Wilson (11 kills, 3 aces, 5 digs) and Megan Smith (22 assists, 2 kills, 1 ace).

Sussex Central 3, Delmar 0: The Golden Knights downed the Wildcats by scores of 25-15, 25-10, 25-15.

Brenya Reid (28 kills, 5 aces), Madelynn McTeer (27 assists, 2 aces) and Katelyn Evick (4 kills, 3 aces, 6 digs) led Central (3-1).

Smyrna 3, Lake Forest 0: The Eagles (4-0) remained unbeaten with the 25-10, 25-22, 25-15 victory.

Anna Richardson (2 aces, 7 digs) and Gianna Romano (5 digs) had nine kills apiece for Smyrna with Karalyn Osborne (5 kills, 2 aces, 2 blocks, 11 digs, 22 assists) and Skylar Berge (3 kills, 6 aces, 4 digs) also leading the way.

Polytech 3, First State Military 0: The Panthers picked up a non-conference win by scores of 25-7, 25-7, 25-13.
