Roundup: Smyrna girls pick up North win over Central

Smyrna High downed Sussex Central, 35-20, in Henlopen North girls’ basketball on Friday night.

The victory was the second in a row for the Eagles, who improved to 5-2 in the North, 6-4 overall. It’s the first time Smyrna has had six victories in a season since 2018.

It also gives the Eagles a sweep of its two games with the Golden Knights (1-4 North, 2-6 overall) this season.

Cape Henlopen 61, Milford 10: Morgan Mahoney collected 21 points, eight rebounds and four blocked shots as the Vikings stayed unbeaten in the Henlopen North.

Julia Saleur added 10 points as 10 Cape players scored in the contest.

Marshay Brown scored all 10 of the Buccaneers’ points.

Woodbridge 75, Delmar 23: De’Asya Jones netted a game-high 25 points in the Blue Raiders’ Henlopen South win.

Reghan Robinson (16), Iyanna Mims (12) and Payton Keeler (11) also finished in double figures for Woodbridge, which led 29-10 after the first quarter.

Zoey Coco had 14 points for the Wildcats.

Boys’ basketball

Seaford 84, Early College 35: Brent Ricketts netted 18 points to pace the Blue Jays to the Henlopen South win.

Akendre Matthews (11), Aviyon Matthews (11) and Booker DeShields (10) also scored in double figures for Seaford, which led 49-15 at halftime.

Khalil Kemp had 14 points for the Hornets.

Laurel 65, Indian River 56: Javier White netted 27 points, with four three-pointers as the Bulldogs’ Henlopen South win.

The contest was tied before Laurel outscored the Indians, 23-5, in the second quarter. Brock Hill (11) and Omori’Yon Cannon (10) also led the Bulldogs.

IR’s Brendon Bradford sank seven threes and netted 29 points. Laron Horsey added 13 points.

Wrestling

Caesar Rodney HS 78, Sussex Tech 3: Nine of the Riders’ 13 individual wins came by pins in the Henlopen North victory.

Winning by fall for CR were Cole Moffett (113 pounds), Antonio Darby (120), Dylan Bennett (132), Marlon Smith (138), Cody Waski (145), Jaxon Kopp (152), DeVaughn Baker (160), Brock Conner (182) and Robert Meister (285).

Cape Henlopen 39, Delaware Military 27: The Vikings were leading 30-21 with three individual matches left when a first-period pin from Lucas Ruppert helped seal the non-conference win.

Cape Henlopen also got a first-period pin from Joshua Wright (126).

Lake Forest 69, Hodgson 6: The Spartans rolled to the non-conference victory behind eight pins.

Winning by fall for Lake Forest were Jermaine Taylor (120), Case Dempsey (126), DeMarcus Russ (132), Cael Moyer (138), Nurrideen Ahmad-Statts (152), Timothy Eddinger (170), Ayden Young (182) and Travis Wyatt (195).

Seaford 41, Sussex Academy 36: The Blue Jays got a first-period pin from Sa`muary Long at 285 in picking up the victory.

Seaford’s other pins came from Carlos Roman-Munoz (113), Coleman Willey (145), Sean Martinez (152) and Zachary Holmes (160).

The Seahawks countered with pins from Colin Poulis (120), Owen Mattioni (126), Gabriel Hill (132), Patrick Donahue (182) and Gerald Windish (220).
