Former Smyrna High football Will Knight standout running back announced on Monday that he’s going to continue his college career at Connecticut.

Knight, who has played one season each at Old Dominion, Delaware and Garden City, Kan. Junior College, announced his decision to commit to the NCAA FBS Division I Huskies on social media.

“Elevated, upgraded my image! UConn nation wassup?!” Knight wrote.

“Big time help in the Backfield,” wrote first-year Huskies coach Jim Mora.

The 5-foot-11, 225-pound Knight still has two seasons of eligibility remaining. UConn, which went 1-11 this past fall, just lost its top running back, Kevin Mensah, to the NCAA Transfer Portal.

Knight ran for a team-high 656 yards and nine touchdowns in nine games for Garden City this past fall. He ran for a team-high 919 and seven TDs with the Blue Hens in 2019 after rushing for 118 yards for FBS Old Dominion in 2018.

UConn, a former conference-mate of Delaware in the Yankee Conference and Atlantic 10, hasn’t had a winning season since 2010. The Huskies are 10-50 over the last five seasons.

UConn has an all-time record of 7-20 against the Blue Hens.

Two Hens make All-American: Delaware offensive lineman David Kroll and safety Kedrick Whitehead (Middletown) both were third-team selections on the Stats Perform FCS All-American team.

Kroll receives his second All-America nod after being named to the HERO Sports FCS All-American second team last week. He capped off his Blue Hen career by starting all 11 games this season at left tackle to anchor Delaware’s offensive line.

Kroll, who was also a key member of the UD’s punt unit, started each of the last 20 games for the Blue Hens and appeared in 53 games overall to tie a program record

Whitehead ranked second on the team with 76 tackles, earning his second-straight All-CAA first-team selection, and third all-conference honor overall. The two-time All-American broke up eight passes and had three games with at least 10 tackles, including a career-high 15 against James Madison.
