Princess Anne's Election House makeover to extend to grounds next

PRINCESS ANNE — Phase 2 of the interior renovation of the Election House at Manokin River Park is nearly complete with lighting the final project.

During the Town Commissioners’ January work session, Public Works Director James Mumford also said next up will be the grounds. A ribbon cutting is being planned for March.

Currently the restroom at the Election House is operational, but will be open only during special events. Town Manager Clayton Anderson said some vandalism occurred, including the pushing over of concrete ball finials.

On a recommendation from Commissioner President Lionel Frederick the town will look into surveillance cameras once it changes to a new IT provider. As for the restroom, Commissioner Joey Gardner said he would like to see the it open during the summer months.

The building was last used for voting in 2016 but several years ago had also been used as a headquarters for kayak rental and as a mini-visitors center.

The town recently appointed members to the Manokin River Park Commission and will introduce them at the Feb. 7 town meeting. Commissioner Vice President Garland Hayward in particular said last summer that he wants to hear from the public to see if there are other ways to actively use this building.
