DOVER — Doretha Howard, 42, of Wilmington, was charged with robbery following an incident downtown Monday, Dover police said.

According to Master Cpl. Ryan Schmid, an investigation began at 10:03 a.m., when officers were called to the 100 block of West Loockerman Street for a report of a robbery.

Officers contacted a 74-year-old female who said she was approached by a female suspect asking for money. The victim said she gave the suspect a small amount of cash.

Cpl. Schmid said the suspect then began pushing the other woman and removed a wallet from her purse. The suspect took credit cards and fled on foot, he added.

Officers received a description of the suspect, and, within 30 minutes, Ms. Howard was taken into custody without further incident, near South New and West Reed streets.

She was charged with second-degree robbery and offensive touching, and committed to Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution, New Castle, on $6,100 cash bail.
