HURLOCK — On Aug. 27, Tri-City Little League held Awards Night, to honor sponsors, board members, Dorchester County Sheriff James W. Phillips Jr., and senior players who have played their last game with Tri City. The ceremonies marked the end of the summer 2021 season.

Among those receiving special recognition was Treasurer Clark Harrison, who started with Tri City in 1997. Since that time, he took on board positions such as Equipment Manager, Purchasing Agent, Uniforms Manager, and Sign and Team Sponsor Manager.

His longest standing board position has been Treasurer which he has held since 2009. In addition to board positions, Mr. Clark also coached in 1998 and then moved up to managing softball teams from 1999-2019. Mr. Harrison’s teams won a total of eight District Championships and two 2nd place State Wins. “Clark has been an invaluable volunteer and member to the Tri-City family,” a statement from the league said.

“Thank you Tri City Little League, its been my pleasure to work with so many good people over last 24 years,” Mr. Harrison said in a post online. “We have come a long way together and built such a great youth program for the surrounding community, couldn’t leave in in better hands! Time to step down from board of directors and enjoy a little more vacation time, however I will remain a member at large and help when needed. Thanks for the recognition guys, it’s been a pleasure.”

VP of Softball Shelli Blake has been with the league for nine years, during which she served as VP of Softball from 2013-2021 and as a softball coach from 2012-2021. “Tri City thanks you so much for your many years of commitment,” the statement said. “You leave us with large shoes to fill.”

Sheriff Phillips received a plaque in honor of his years of service. He is a lifelong resident of Dorchester County and began his career with the sheriff’s office in 1977. He has served in many areas of the office, including Patrol, Criminal Investigations Unit, and as Chief of Operations.

“He was elected Sheriff in 2002 and is still constantly looking for new opportunities to add to the services provided to the citizens of Dorchester County,” the statement said. “Tri-City Little League would like to recognize those efforts as Sheriff Phillips continues to support the youth of our community. He has been a big supporter of this league and we could not continue the great work we do for our youth without people like him. Thank You Sheriff Phillips!”
