Norman “Jack” Eugene Porter passed away at home on Veteran’s Day on November 11, 2024. He was honorable discharged from the United States Air Force on February 10, 1966. He was born in Smyrna, DE, to the late John Porter Sr. and Mary (Legates) Porter.
Jack worked at Kraft Foods (formerly General Foods) for 30 years before retiring in 1997. He worked hard and lived a great life. He was an avid sportsman: hunting, fishing, and bowling (with many 1st place trophies), and camping. He was a member of the Harrington Moose Lodge, the PBA Bowling League in Milford, and the Harrington Senior Center.
He is survived by his caring and loving wife of 62 years, Helen Rose Dobraski Porter; 2 daughters, Valerie (Leon) Carlisle and Vicki Porter; 3 granddaughters, Karla Gillespie, Kristin (Tim) Mullaney, and Ashlee Gillespie; 9 great grandchildren- 7 girls and 2 boys; nephew, Rick Sullivan; aunt, Jane Wilkins; brother-in-law, William Shockley; and several nieces, nephews, and friends.
Private services are being held for the family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to: The Harrington Senior Center, 102 Fleming Street, Harrington, DE 19952; or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at stjude.org/donate.
