Which is your favorite barbecue joint? Or date night hotspot? Or landmark? Maybe there’s a local professional who deserves recognition for their work in the community. Nominations are open now for the 2023 “Stars of the Banner,” the official Dorchester Banner Readers’ Poll. There are over 100 categories, from favorite crab cakes and chiropractors to festivals and workplaces.

The Stars of the Banner has three parts: a nomination phase, a voting phase and then the announcement of the winners in a keepsake booklet, published in the Banner and online. There will also be a public celebration for the community and winners, including the 2023 Hometown Heroes, on the shore of the Choptank River in Cambridge.

Nominations are open now. Readers can nominate all their favorites businesses, services and Hometown Heroes with the easy-to-use online ballot (StarsoftheBanner.com) or the printed ballot in the newspaper on Jan. 11, 18 and 25. There is no cost to participate and no limit on the number of times that one individual can fill out the nomination form. Plus, businesses and organizations can be nominated in multiple categories. Nominations are open from now until Sunday night, Feb. 5.

The finalists with the most nominations will advance to the second voting phase, beginning on Sunday, Feb. 18, with winners announced in May.

“It is a fun experience that gives our readers a chance to participate in a meaningful contest, to recognize some of the many top-notch businesses and attractions in the county,” said publisher Darel La Prade.
