MILFORD — The $16 million project to build a new police station in Milford is on schedule, a city official said at a city council meeting Monday evening.

All the contracts are squared away and “administratively, everything is ready to go,” said Mike Svaby, the city’s public works director. Only the Delaware Department of Transportation’s approval of the site plan is needed before construction can begin.

“That’s literally days away,” he said. Construction is expected to take about 14 months, Mr. Svaby said. So far, he added, “nothing unexpected” has derailed a planned start sometime this month.

Also discussed at the meeting:

The city’s waste collection services are caught up after a week and a half or so of disruption, although one of the city’s trucks still requires repairs, Mr. Svaby said.

A shortage of power transformers continues, said Tony Chipola, head of electric. Proactive measures may have to be taken to ensure the city has spares, he said. One potential option could be slowing down business construction related activities.

The council approved a contract with an electrical workers union, featuring a 6% wage increase.

The council also voted to adopt new building codes. In the process, they made fire sprinkler systems in townhouses optional, with the intent to revisit that part of the code in the future.
