NEW CASTLE — The draft of the New Castle County comprehensive plan is now available for review and comment, announced County Executive Matt Meyer on Monday.
The plan is a blueprint for the county’s growth between now and 2050, addressing issues such as climate change and housing to ensure communities’ strength and vibrancy in protecting the environment. The draft is the result of 11 public meetings, dozens of community and stakeholder gatherings, and thousands of website and web survey interactions.
Stakeholders identified six consistent themes based on current trends and concerns from individuals, businesses and organizations: sustainable growth, livable environments for all, conservation and preservation, a robust economy, thriving places and community character, and diverse engagement.
The county will be holding two public forums to discuss the draft: in person on Thursday at 4 p.m. at the Gilliam Building or virtually at 6 p.m. Dec. 15. The county asks the community to review the first full draft and provide comment by Jan. 12, before officials proceed with refining the draft and readying it for formal consideration for adoption in the spring.
The full plan, registration for public forums and information on how to submit comments is available here. To receive a print copy, contact the county by calling 302-395-5400 or emailing ncc2050@newcastlede.gov.
