ANNAPOLIS — Dorchester County was scheduled to be treated by an aircraft to reduce the adult mosquito population, beginning the evening of Sept. 9, weather conditions permitting.

The aircraft is a twin engine, white plane with red and blue  stripes, registration number N903MD. It was planned to fly 300 to 500 feet, above the ground during the evening hours, a statement from the Maryland Department of Agriculture said.

The following communities and areas were to receive aerial spraying services:

Cambridge – Dorchester Regional Airport

The insecticide used is Trumpet, a formulation containing naled and   applied at less than 1.0 fluid ounce per acre.  Approximately 300 acres  were set to be treated.  People, pets or  livestock need not leave areas designated for treatment.

This notice helps to satisfy the requirements of the Federal Aviation Administration for public notice of aerial spraying over communities.

Recent wet weather has increased the population, and the nuisance, of mosquitoes in Dorchester County.
