REHOBOTH BEACH — A 61-year-old Rehoboth Beach man was critically injured when the moped he was operating was struck by a vehicle Monday night, Delaware State Police said.

The man was ejected from the moped following impact and struck the asphalt on Coastal Highway (Del. 1) just south of Camelot Drive, spokeswoman Master Cpl. Heather Pepper said.

The incident occurred at approximately 7:58 p.m., she said.
Police said the moped was struck by a 2020 Honda Civic that was turning into the parking lot of the Cracker Barrel/Econo Lodge.

The moped operator was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, police said. The Camry driver and a passenger did not sustain injuries.

The right lane and bus lane of southbound Coastal Highway were shut down for approximately three hours while the investigation was conducted.

DSP said the collision remains under investigation by the Troop 7 Collision Reconstruction Unit. Anyone with information can contact Cpl/3 Kenneth Argo by calling 644-5020. Information may also be provided by calling Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333 or online at delaware.crimestoppersweb.com.
