MILTON — Jonathan A. Downing Jr., 36., of Milton, died in a single-vehicle crash on Cave Neck Road on Tuesday, Delaware State Police said.

Police said Mr. Downing wasn’t wearing a seat belt when his 2009 Jaguar XF exited the left edge of the road at approximately 6:17 p.m. The front of the vehicle hit a sign along a private driveway, then it continued traveling south before the front right struck a utility pole. The force of the impact caused the Jaguar to rotate clockwise and overturn.

Mr. Downing was transported from the scene to an area hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

The collision remains under investigation by the DSP Collision Reconstruction Unit. Anyone with information is asked to contact Sgt. Nicholas DeMalto by calling 644-5020. Information may also be provided by calling Delaware Crime Stoppers at 800-TIP-3333 or by visiting here.
