DOVER — A 28-year-old man from Millsboro, was arrested Monday by Delaware State Police for felony assault and other charges following an investigation.

Delaware State Police spokesman Senior Cpl. Leonard DeMalto, said troopers arrived at Webbs Lane in Dover just after noon on Monday. They were told that a gold 2009 Ford Crown Victoria was at this location, which had been reported overnight as stolen.

Cpl. DeMalto said a trooper contacted the occupant of the parked sedan, who was later identified as Wade Wilson.

Mr. Wilson allegedly refused to comply with the trooper’s commands, and subsequently placed the car in drive and began accelerating forward, allegedly dragging the trooper with the car until the trooper struck a tree.

Cpl. DeMalto said the car then collided with a sign and stopped in a grassy area. Mr. Wilson then allegdly exited the car and fled the scene on foot.

The trooper was treated at an area hospital for several physical injuries sustained during the encounter.

Mr. Wilson was later apprehended and taken into custody by Dover Police Department officers on Monday evening after they responded to a report of a suspicious person on Mimosa Avenue.

Mr. Wilson was taken to Troop 3 in Camden and charged with several felonies, including second-degree assault; first-degree reckless endangering; receiving stolen property over $1,500; resisting arrest with force or violence.

Mr. Wilson was committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution in Georgetown on $10,000 cash bond.
