MILLSBORO — A 23-year-old Millsboro man was arrested on multiple felony charges stemming from a domestic incident followed by a burglary early Friday, Delaware State Police said.
Police said that at approximately 1:40 a.m., troopers responded to a residence on the 25000 block of River Bend Road for a report of a stabbing. Troopers arrived at the scene and made contact with a 20-year-old female, who declined treatment for her injuries.
Troopers learned that the female’s partner, identified as Davion West, entered a bedroom occupied by the sleeping victim and their 9-month-old baby.
Police said Mr. West woke the female up and stabbed her in the leg with a knife during an argument. According to authorities, Mr. West then fled the scene in a red Mazda 3 that he stole from the residence.
A trooper searching the area for Mr. West observed the Mazda traveling on Harbeson Road in the area of Carpenter Road. The trooper initiated a traffic stop, however the Mazda continued to flee at a high rate of speed, until it lost control and crashed on private property, police said.
Authorities said Mr. West abandoned the disabled Mazda and fled on foot through a cornfield. As troopers continued to canvas the area, they received reports of a subject trespassing and unlawfully entering a garage of a residence on Shingle Point Road in Milton, police said.
Troopers responded to the residence in Milton and located Mr. West in the garage. He was taken into custody without incident, police said.
Troopers recovered a knife in the bedroom of the Millsboro home, police said.
Mr. West was charged with first-degree burglary, second-degree assault, possession of a deadly weapon, motor vehicle theft, disregarding a police officer signal, attempted motor vehicle theft, resisting arrest, endangering the welfare of a child, criminal mischief, driving while suspended and traffic offenses. He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on an $84,400 secured bond.
