HARTLY — A 58-year-old Milford woman died in a single-vehicle crash early Tuesday, Delaware State Police spokeswoman Master Cpl. Heather Pepper said.
The woman was driving a 1997 Honda Accord that entered a curve on Hartly Road, north of Halltown Road, and traveled off the east side of the roadway at approximately 2:40 a.m., authorities said. The vehicle struck a curve-warning sign with its left front fender as it traveled down a slight grass embankment. The vehicle then crossed between a guide wire and utility pole, sideswiping the left side with the guide wire.
As the vehicle continued traveling southbound, it crossed a private driveway, then struck a large tree with its front bumper. After hitting the tree, the Accord deflected off and came to rest just west of the tree, Cpl. Pepper said.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Identification is pending notification of next of kin.
The roadway in the area was closed for approximately three hours, while the collision was investigated.
The Troop 3 Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate and asked anyone with information to contact Cpl./3 Joseph Lane at 697-4454. Information may also be provided by calling Delaware Crime Stoppers at 800-TIP-3333 or by visiting here.
