Milford special election canceled

Posted

MILFORD — With only one person having filed to run, the special election to fill the vacancy in the city’s 3rd Ward has been canceled.

Nirmala Samaroo was the only person to file for the vacant seat as of the filing deadline, which was Wednesday.

The election would have been Nov. 9.

Per the city’s Board of Election and Delaware Code, there being only one candidate in the 3rd Ward, Ms. Samaroo may assume office without a formal election.

She will be sworn in prior to the Nov. 8 City Council meeting to complete the remaining term, which will conclude in May 2023. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m.

The special election was necessitated by former Councilman Doug Morrow moving to Wilmington.
