Milford City Council election coming up

Deadline to register candidacy with city is Tuesday

Posted

Four of eight City Council members will finish their two-year terms this spring.

With the filing deadline for the city’s election approaching Tuesday, residents have the opportunity to challenge these incumbent candidates, three of whom have filed to retain their seats.

City Clerk Terri Hudson said she has received paperwork from the 1st Ward’s Dan Marabello, the 2nd Ward’s Todd Culotta and the 4th Ward’s Jason James, who is the current vice mayor.

She said the 3rd Ward’s Doug Morrow is also at the end of his term but has not filed any paperwork yet.

The deadline for any challengers to declare their candidacy is Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.

“Interested parties must pick up a packet from me,” Ms. Hudson said.

“Interested residents must complete two forms and submit a petition signed by 10 voters from their ward.”

So far, she said, no one other than the three aforementioned incumbent candidates have signed up.

Ms. Hudson said voting in this election will be similar to police station referendum in January, although polls will only open for races that have two or more candidates running for the seat.

Residents planning to vote still need to register with the city, a process that is distinct from registering to vote with the state. To do so, call Ms. Hudson’s office at 422-1111. The deadline to register is March 25 at 4:30 p.m.

If any ballots do end up needing to be cast, polling will happen at the Public Works Department at 180 Vickers Drive on April 24.
