MIDDLETOWN — Construction will begin on the Route 299/East Main Street, Del. 1 to Catherine Street project on Tuesday, July 6. Shoulder closures may occur between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, pending weather.

Phase one includes the installation of water and sewer along Brick Mill Road’s northbound side and along the eastbound side of Route 299. Later, Route 299/East Main Street will be widened to two lanes with a raised median from Del. 1 to Cleaver Farm Road. New signals, pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure will also be added.

The Delaware Department of Transportation reminds motorists to pay attention to work zones and obey traffic laws to ensure safe passage. Project completion is expected by fall 2023.
