MIDDLETOWN — The Air Force Junior ROTC program at Middletown High School held a vigil April 6 to mark the 18th anniversary of the death of U.S. Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Anthony P. Roberts.

Cpl. Roberts was a proud alumnus who died while serving in Iraq.

The current cadets assembled a display with his high school yearbook photo; his Marine service photo and Purple Heart; a Marine Corps flag and cap; and an article about his life.

The students took turns standing guard throughout the day to honor his memory and raise awareness about the many sacrifices of members of the armed forces.

In honor of Cpl. Roberts’ contributions, a $3,000 scholarship has been established to support cadets. This year, Cadet Andrew Tosten was the recipient.
