CAMBRIDGE — As the situation regarding COVID-19 continues to develop, local groups are reaching out to spread the word about their events and schedules. It remains a good idea to check on the status of goods and services before leaving home.
The Banner compiled a list of announcements over the previous week, which follows:

Board of Education
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Board of Education meeting on Aug. 20 at 4:30 p.m. will be livestreamed only and there will be no public access to the Dorchester Career and Technology Center. The agenda and related documents can be accessed online via BoardDocs on the Dorchester County Public Schools website at dcps.k12.md.us. The meeting will be open to the public by livestreaming only, at townhallstreams.com/towns/dorchesterboe.
Due to COVID-19 Board Meetings are being held virtually and Public Comments can be emailed to Ms. Chris Dayton, daytonc@dcpsmd.org, by 3:30 p.m. Aug. 20.
After the start of the open session, the Board will meet in closed session in accordance with Section 3-305 of the General Provisions of the Annotated Code of Maryland. At the conclusion of the Closed Session, the Board will reconvene at 6 p.m. in open session.
All Board of Education Meetings will be livestreamed at townhallstreams.com/towns/dorchesterboe.

Ethics Commission
The Dorchester County Ethics Commission will conduct a meeting on Aug. 19 at 6 p.m. in Room 110 of the County Office Building in Cambridge. This public hearing will be held by conference call, (701) 802-5222, pin no. 873725#.
Due to COVID-19, there will be limited public access for the hearing in Room 110.
Gov. Larry Hogan
Maryland’s statewide COVID-19 positivity rate has reached a new all-time low of 3.27% and the daily positivity rate has fallen to a record low of 2.12%, as of Monday. The governor also announced that total COVID hospitalizations have dropped 26% in the month of August, to 435, and the state is reporting its lowest number of new deaths since March 28.
Relay for Life
The 2020 Relay For Life of Dorchester County will take place Sept. 11 at 5 p.m. at Sailwinds Park. The park is located at 200 Byrn St, Cambridge.

Drive-in theatre
You’ve heard of drive-in movies, but how about drive-in theatre for all ages? Groove Theatre Company is performing Hans Christian Andersen’s “The Little Mermaid” in a safe, socially distanced setting outside at Governor’s Hall at Sailwinds Park Aug. 28, 29, and 30.
Here’s how this “drive-in theatre in the round” will work: You’ll drive up, tune in your radio to the appropriate channel, and settle in for a great show right from your car as actors (whose masks have been integrated into the costume design) do their thing.

Report COVID violations
As part of Maryland’s ongoing efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19, several state agencies are working together to facilitate a statewide communication process for citizens to report concerns about potential situations where precautions are being ignored that will prompt follow-up by local health officials and, if necessary, law enforcement officers.
The Maryland Emergency Management Agency, Maryland Department of Health and Maryland Department of State Police announced Maryland’s toll-free COVID Prevention Line, 1-833-979-2266. To email, use prevent.covid@maryland.gov.
This is a statewide toll-free number and an email address which can be used 24 hours a day to report situations of concern where prevention guidelines are being ignored and the potential for the spread of COVID-19 is high.
Callers/emailers may remain anonymous or they can provide their name and phone number in the event additional information is needed from officials.
Information provided on this line will be forwarded to the local health department officials in the jurisdiction of the location or situation described in the call.
Depending on the circumstances, teams of appropriate local officials from agencies including the health department, liquor board, and law enforcement will assess the situation and take the appropriate action.
Ultimately, individuals violating the Governor’s Executive Order could be charged with a violation of that order, which carries a penalty of up to one year in jail, a $5,000 fine, or both.
It is important for each Marylander to do their part to stop the spread of COVID-19 in the state of Maryland. Following state and local health guidelines will result in a safer and healthier state that can return to normal sooner rather than later.

Peninsula Regional Med. Ctr.
Peninsula Regional Medical Center has announced that it will begin allowing limited visitation for some of their patients beginning today. Patients will designate one visitor for the duration of their stay, who can come to visit on weekdays from 2-6 p.m. and weekends from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Visitors must pass a screening and be the officially designated visitor in order to visit with the patient. Please take into consideration that PRMC’s lobbies remain closed and waiting is not permitted. Visitors are asked to come alone and not bring others.
