DELMAR — A 22-year-old Delmar, Maryland, man died in a motorcycle crash Sunday, Delaware State Police spokeswoman Master Cpl. Heather Pepper said.

Authorities said the man was operating a 2018 Suzuki sport-style motorcycle on U.S. 13, near Allens Mill Road, when a 2005 Ford Escape pulled into its path from a stop sign at approximately 3:20 p.m. The front of the vehicle struck the left rear of the motorcycle, causing the motorcycle operator to be ejected, DSP said. The motorcycle immediately caught fire after coming to a rest.

The motorcycle operator was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Identification is pending notification of next of kin. The driver of the Ford Escape was uninjured.

The road was closed for approximately 3.5 hours, while the investigation was completed, and the crash was cleared.

The incident remains under investigation by the Troop 7 Collision Reconstruction Unit. DSP asked anyone with information to contact Cpl. Ryan Albert at 644-5020. Information may also be provided by calling Delaware Crime Stoppers at (800) TIP-3333 or by visiting its website.
