Maryland man charged with drug offenses

VIOLA - Caheim Drake, 43, of Salisbury, Maryland, was arrested on drug charges after a traffic stop on Friday, Delaware State Police spokesman Senior Cpl. Leonard DeMalto said.

According to police, Mr. Drake was driving on South DuPont Highway when he failed to signal for a lane change and was then pulled over at approximately 10 p.m. The stop was made in the area of East Evens Road, authorities said.

Police said that during the stop, a K-9 conducted a free-air scan of the vehicle. The K-9 alerted to the presence of an odor of narcotics, and Mr. Drake was searched at the scene, police said. Troopers discovered that he was in possession of approximately 84.24 grams of cocaine and approximately 3.02 grams of marijuana, Cpl. DeMalto said.

Mr. Drake was taken into custody without incident.

Mr. Drake was charged with possession counts of intent to deliver a controlled substance in a Tier 3 quantity, controlled substance in a Tier 3 quantity, marijuana and drug paraphernalia, along with failure to signal. He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 7 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $80,102 secured bond.
