On Feb. 17 at approximately 8:24 p.m., Cambridge Police responded to the 700 block of Washington Street in reference to a 19-year-old male who had sustained a gunshot wound to the face. The victim told officers he had been standing in the 700 block of Washington Street when a subject unknown to him shot him from quite a distance away.
The victim was conscious and alert upon police arrival. He was taken to Salisbury and was in stable condition.
This investigation is continuing and anyone with additional information is asked to contact the Cambridge Police Department’s Detective Division.

In other police news:
Maryland state troopers are warning residents on the Lower Shore of an apparent telephone scam involving a caller asking for donations to the Maryland State Police.
On Wednesday evening, a Somerset County resident called the Princess Anne Barrack reporting she had been contacted by a male caller who said he was with the Maryland State Police. He was seeking a monetary ‘donation’ from her.
The woman did not provide a donation or any personal information. Instead, she hung up and contacted the barrack.
Troopers called the suspect’s number, but immediately were sent to voice mail. Their investigation is continuing.
The Maryland State Police does not solicit monetary donations.
“No one representing the Maryland State Police would ever call asking for money for the Department,” a statement from the police said. “Anyone representing themselves as a member of the Maryland State Police and asking for a donation to the Department is a fraud and involved in an attempted scam.”
Anyone else in the area who may have received a call from this individual may report that to the Princess Anne Barrack at 443-260-3700.

QAC school bus cameras
Queen Anne’s County school buses are now equipped with stop-arm cameras. Violators will be mailed a citation and fine for breaking the law, beginning March 1.

CDS, Suspended license
On Feb. 12 at 9:16 a.m. at Route 50 Eastbound and Exit 43A in Grasonville, Queen Anne’s County Sheriff’s Office DFC Patchett conducted a traffic stop. Upon making contact with the driver, DFC Patchett observed numerous indicators of criminal behavior, a statement from the sheriff’s office said.
A probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted and a clear baggie containing suspected cocaine residue was located along with other paraphernalia. Jermain Deron Chapman, 40 of Cambridge was charged with Possession of Controlled Dangerous Substance not Marijuana, Possession of Controlled Dangerous Substance Paraphernalia and released on a criminal citation. It was also determined that Chapman’s license was suspended and he was charged accordingly.

Crack
On Feb. 21, an officer from the Easton Police Department stopped a vehicle on eastbound Ocean Gateway in the area of Chapel Road for an equipment violation.
K-9 Dietz and her handler completed a scan of the vehicle, which led to an arrest.
Dietz alerted on the vehicle for the odor of a controlled dangerous substance. A search was conducted on one of the passengers in the vehicle, a 59-year-old man from Easton, on whom the officers found 100 vials of crack cocaine. This amount is indicative of an intent to distribute, a statement from the police said.
Demetrick L. Cephas was arrested and charged with possession of cocaine, as well as possession with the intent to distribute cocaine. He was transported to Central Booking for processing and to see Talbot County District Court Commissioner.

Fatal crash in Kent
At about 6:45 p.m. Feb. 21, troopers from the Centreville Barrack responded to the area of southbound Maryland Route 514 south of Mary Morris Road for a report of a two-vehicle crash with multiple injuries. According to a preliminary investigation, a white 2003 Chevy Silverado, driven by Brian Keith Bowman, 32, of Betterton, was traveling north on Route 514 south of Mary Morris Road. At the same time, a 2007 Ford Fusion was traveling south on Route 514.
For unknown reasons, Bowman veered into the northbound lane and crashed head-on into the Ford. Bowman and the driver of the Ford, a 57-year-old male, were declared deceased at the scene. The passenger in Bowman’s vehicle, a 37-year-old male, was flown by a Maryland State Police helicopter to Shock Trauma in Baltimore for treatment of his injuries.
The Maryland State Police Crash Team has taken over the investigation of this case. The road was closed for more than six hours following the crash before reopening at about 12:45 a.m. on Feb. 22. The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration assisted with the road closure.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
