DOVER — A 37-year-old Dover-area man died after being shot multiple times early Wednesday, Dover police spokesman Sgt. Mark Hoffman said.

Officers responded to the area of West North Street and Simon Circle at approximately 1:33 a.m. for a reported shooting and found the victim suffering from wounds to the torso. They provided medical attention until paramedics arrived, Sgt. Hoffman said.

The victim was transported to Bayhealth Hospital, Kent Campus, where police said he succumbed to his injuries.

Police did not release the victim’s name pending notification of next of kin. No suspect information was available Wednesday morning, Sgt. Hoffman said.

The investigation was ongoing, and police asked anyone with information to call 736-7130. Callers may remain anonymous. Tips may also be submitted to law enforcement through Delaware Crime Stoppers at (800) TIP-3333 or here; a cash reward is possible for information leading to an arrest.

The incident is the city’s second homicide this year, police said. Dazhmier Brooks, 19, died from injuries suffered in a shooting April 12, which led to the arrest of Riley Braswell, 22, on May 3, Sgt. Hoffman added.

Mr. Braswell was charged with first-degree murder and other felony offenses. That incident occurred in the 400 block of Sussex Avenue.
