REHOBOTH BEACH — Delaware State Police arrested a 39-year-old Centreville, Maryland, man for robbery and related charges following an incident shortly before midnight Thursday in Rehoboth Beach.

Police said a 59-year-old man was at an ATM located on Coastal Highway at approximately 11:31 when Quintaze L. Gross came up behind him. Mr. Gross allegedly put the victim in a chokehold, threatened to shoot him and demanded money.

After struggling with the attacker briefly, the victim was able to get out of the chokehold. When Mr. Gross saw the man did not have money, he continued to threaten him, authorities said.

According to police, the victim then made his way to his vehicle, with Mr. Gross following him. Mr. Gross allegedly grabbed the victim’s keys and two cell phones and attempted to flee, escaping despite the victim’s attempt to restrain him.

Police said a passerby saw the incident and chased Mr. Gross and was able to recover the phones and keys.

Police apprehended him around 11:48 p.m. as he was walking southbound on Coastal Highway and transported him to Troop 4. Further investigations by detectives revealed Mr. Gross was also involved in another robbery that occurred on June 16, 2021, police said.

In that incident, Mr. Gross robbed the Anchorage Inn located at 18809 Coastal Highway, stealing an undisclosed amount of money after a scuffle with a clerk, police said.

He was charged with first-degree robbery, second-degree robbery, theft under $1,500, resisting arrest, offensive touching and menacing. He was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court #3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $27,200 secured bond.
