Local roundup: Vikings roll past Hillers

Five different players scored goals as unbeaten Cape Henlopen High blanked Tower Hill, 5-0, in field hockey on Saturday morning.

Noelle Sabbagh (4 assists), Elizabeth Rishko, Reagan Ciabattoni, Louise Rishko (1 assist) and Emma Duffield all scored for the Vikings (4-0), who led 3-0 at halftime.

Cape Henlopen has out-scored its first four opponents by a total of 37-2.

Delmar 10, Pocomoke, Md. 0: Maci Bradford collected three goals and three assists for the Wildcats, who broke open a 1-0 game with a five-goal second quarter.

Baylie Phillips added a pair of goals. Delmar (6-0), which didn’t allow a shot or a corner in Saturday’s win, has won its first six games by a combined 63-0.

Newark Charter 3, Sussex Academy 2: The Patriots scored the game’s last two goals to win in overtime.

Emma Westbrook tallied both goals for Sussex Academy (3-1) while Madison Leeper had a pair of assists. The Seahawks finished with advantages of 10-5 in shots and 10-3 in corners.

Football

Delmar-Milford on Monday: Milford High (2-1) will host Delmar (1-1) on Monday in a football game that was originally scheduled for Friday night. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m.

The rescheduled game will make it a short week for both squads. Milford hosts Red Lion Christian on Friday night with Delmar hosting Woodbridge on Saturday afternoon. Both contests are homecoming game.

Indian River’s game at Brandywine was also postponed on Friday night but no makeup date has been announced.

Odessa 24, First State Military 13: The Ducks (1-2) earned the school’s first varsity football win with the Class 1A, District II victory on Friday night.

Boys’ soccer

William Penn 4, Dover 1: Bryson Mackenzie scored the lone goal for the Senators in a game in which all the goals were scored in the first half.

Dover held advantages of 9-8 in shots and 6-2 in corner kicks. Alex Escalante-Diaz made three saves for the Senators.

Laurel 2, The Salisbury School, Md. 1: The Bulldogs led 1-0 at halftime before posting the victory to improve to 5-0.

Volleyball

Caravel 3, Dover 1: The Buccaneers took the finals two sets to register a 27-25, 22-25, 25-19, 25-21, win over the Senators.

The loss was the first of the season for Dover (4-1).

Indian River 3, St. Georges 0: The Indians picked up a non-conference victory by scores of 25-18, 26-24, 25-14.

Newark Charter 3, Cape Henlopen 0: The Patriots downed the Vikings by scores of 25-13, 27-25, 25-15.
