Jordan Illian’s goal in the first overtime gave Indian River High a 1-0 victory over Caesar Rodney in boys’ soccer on Tuesday evening.

The Indians lost to the Riders twice a year ago, including a 4-2 decision in the Henlopen Conference championship game. Kai Kelley made eight saves for IR.

Jacoby Sheaffer made five saves for the Riders, who out-shot IR, 13-8. Both teams had six corner kicks.

Milford 4, Lake Forest 1: Efsi Jacobo Ramirez netted a pair of goals to pace the Buccaneers.

Emmanuel Joseh and Thompson Burke also scored goals for Milford, which finished with advantages of 12-6 in shots and 3-2 in corner kicks.

Kervens Deus scored the Spartans’ goal.

Cape Henlopen 4, Laurel 2: Aldo Hernandez-Becerra tallied two goals and an assist as the Vikings improved to 6-0.

Jacob Schell and Nicholas Panyko also scored for Cape in a game that was tied 2-2 at halftime. Dru Schneider made four saves as the Vikings held edges of 13-5 in shots and 5-1 in corner kicks.

Jose Zelaya Mejia tied the contest for the Bulldogs with Noah Ros making nine saves.

Sussex Academy 5, Polytech 2: Four players scored goals for the Seahawks in the win.

Justin Mendoza Martinez, Liam Stegall, Alexander Jaimes and Andres Romero-Nieto all scored Sussex Academy while Carter Norton made four saves.

Bradley Mummert and Bowen Simmons scored for the Panthers with James Waterton making 10 saves.

Sussex Tech 1, Delmar 0: A goal from Johnny Perez-Perez in the 50th minute gave the Ravens their first win of the season.

Sussex Central 7, Worcester Prep 1: The Golden Knights netted four first-half goals before picking up the victory.

Field hockey

Smyrna 3, Lake Forest 0: The Eagles scored a goal in each of the last three quarters to pull away in a showdown of unbeaten squads.

London Bebout had a goal and two assists for Smyrna (5-0) with Reese Nacrelli and Ava Pierce adding the other goals. Halle Geiger made six saves for the Eagles, who held advantages of 28-6 in shots and 15-3 in corners.

Lake Forest goalie  Madison Lawson made 14 saves.

Sussex Academy 3, Milford 0: The Seahawks tallied three second-half goals in the victory.

Morgan Leeper (2 assists), Shelby Manlove and Callie Short all scored for Sussex Academy, which got 13 saves from Kaitlin Musgrave. Milford held a 13-11 edge in shots.

Melissa Mesidor made eight saves for the Buccaneers.

Cape Henlopen 11, Indian River 0: The Vikings scored six first-quarter goals before earning the victory.

Woodbridge 5, Polytech 0: The Blue Raiders tallied three first-quarter goals to take control against the Panthers.

Delmar 12, Dover 0: Baylie Phillips scored three goals to spark the Wildcats.
Jordyn Hollamon, Josie Hollamon and Maci Bradford all added two goals and an assist for Delmar, which took 48 shots and 19 corners.

The Senators’ Savannah Strauss made 19 saves.

Sussex Central 10, Seaford 0: The Golden Knights blanked the Blue Jays on Tuesday.

Girls’ volleyball

Cape Henlopen 3, Lake Forest 1: The Vikings took the first two sets bfore picking up a 25-11, 25-12, 14-25, 25-11 win.

Cape Henlopen was paced by Kalista Lawson (10 kills, 4 aces, 15 digs), Megan Smith (5 aces, 9 digs, 36 assists), Kayleigh Mault (9 kills, 3 aces) and Harlee Graulich (7 aces, 22 digs).

Sussex Central 3, Woodbridge 0: The Golden Knights won the match by scores of 25-13, 25-12, 25-18.

Takyla Davis had six kills for Central with Lillette Hastings adding five aces.

Delmarva Christian 3, Holly Grove Christian 0: The Royals improved to 5-1 with their fifth win in a row.

William Penn 3, Laurel 2: The Colonials won the final two sets to rally for a 25-17, 13-25, 23-25, 25-18, 15-12 win on Monday.

Odyssey Charter 3, Woodbridge 1: Odyssey won the last three setts to take the 14-25, 25-21, 25-16, 25-12 victory.

College athletics

Two more DSU teams joining NEC: Delaware State University athletics has announced that the women’s lacrosse and soccer programs will join the Northeast Conference next year as associate members.

The announcement comes two months after the NEC established a three-sport associate member partnership with the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference in baseball and men’s golf and women’s golf.

This will be the first conference affiliation for the Delaware State women’s soccer program since 2015. The Hornets previously competed in the United Soccer Conference in 2006 and ‘07, the Great West Conference from 2009-to-12, and the Independent Conference from 2013-to-15.

Delaware State women’s lacrosse is currently in its second stint as a member of the Atlantic Sun Conference (2017; 2021-to-present). The Hornets were members of the Southern Conference from 2018-to-20.

College equestrian

Hornets post victory: The Delaware State equestrian team turned in a strong performance in a 12-3 victory over Minnesota Crookston at the Dovington Training Center on Saturday.

The Hornets won the Jumping Seat competition 6-1 and were 6-2 winners in the Western rides. Delaware State claimed all four Most Outstanding Performer awards in the contest.

In the Jumping Seat competition, Miranda McCarthy was MOP in Fences, topping all competitors with a score of 80 aboard “River.” Olivia Brown rode “Finnegan” to a score of 82 to earn MOP honors on the Flat.

On the Western side, Delaware State’s Kersten Zehner was awarded after posting a Horsemanship score of 78 on “Baby,” while teammate Aidan Stetzer was MOP in Reining with a score of 78 aboard “Dunnit.”

The Hornets also recorded a point in Reining from Amber Van Segbrook (74).
In addition to Zehner, Ashley Grasso (77), Casey Johnson (76) and Alex Grogan (75) were winners in Horsemanship to give the Hornets a 4-0 sweep in the event.

McCarthy was a double winner for the day, collecting a point for the Hornets with a score of 79 on the Flat.

Victoria Croston also posted two wins in the competition, posting a winning score of 79 in Fences and earned a point on the Flat with a score of 73.
