Jaheim Harrell poured in 32 points as Dover High downed Caesar Rodney, 64-42, in Henlopen North boys’ basketball on Saturday afternoon.

Harrell, who sank four three-pointers, netted 13 of his points in the first quarter as the Senators jumped out to a 20-8 advantage.

The victory was the fifth in a row over the Riders for Dover (9-3 North, 12-6 overall). Denim Perkins added 12 points.

Senior Steven Smith tallied 17 points for CR with Anthony Aglio adding 11.
Delmarva Christian 58, Great Oaks 52: The Royals improved to 11-5 with the victory.

Indoor track & field

Henlopen athletes take DIAA titles: Several Henlopen Conference athletes won state titles at the DIAA indoor track & field state championship meet on Saturday.

Tatnall and Salesianum captured the girls’ and boys’ team state championships at the event, held at Prince Georges’ Sports & Learning Center in Landover, Md.

In the boys’ meet, Sussex Tech’s Yougendy Mauricette won both the 400 meters (49.79) and the 55-meter hurdles (7.81). Individually, Sussex Central’s Timothy Wright won the 55 meters (6.51), Caesar Rodney’s Ian Cain won the 800 meters (2:01.52), Cape Henlopen’s Ryan Baker won the 3,200 meters (9:34.54), Smyrna’s Makhi Scott won the long jump (22-5) and Cape Henlopen’s Bailey Fletcher won the pole vault (13-0).

The Riders’ team of Griffin Spana, Cain, Evan Easton and Maddox Owens also took the 3,200 relay (8:23.25).

In the girls’ meet, Smyrna’s Brooke Duke was the lone Henlopen Conference winner after taking the high jump (5-2).

Wrestling

Sussex Central 37, Salesianum 31: Chase Murray’s major decision in the final match at 120 pounds clinched the non-conference win for the Golden Knights.

Malachi Stratton added a pin at 113 as unbeaten Central (19-0) scored the match’s final 10 points. The Knights also got pins from Andrew Long (144), Cody Layfield (157), Gabe Cannon (175) and Ryder Robinson (285).

Caesar Rodney 45, Caravel 23: The Riders won four of the last individual matches, out-scoring the Buccaneers 18-4 in that stretch, to put away the non-conference win.

Cody Waski (150 pounds) and Cameron Cataldi (157) picked up back-to-back pins to start that run for CR, which won nine of the 14 bouts. The Riders also got pins from Caleb Kellum (285), Cole Moffett (113), Trevor Copes (126) and Nathan Moore (138).

Cape Henlopen 47, William Penn 19: The Vikings won eight of the first 10 matches before posting the victory.

Cape Henlopen received pins from Holt Baker (126), Braydon Cole (144), Charles Fritchman (175) and Tripp Gannon (106).

Smyrna 55, Milford 20: Trailing 18-17, the Eagles won seven straight matches to take control in the Henlopen North victory.

Jacob Supinski (157) posted a 35-second pin for Smyrna. Also winning by fall for the Eagles were Warren Coates (113), Qwantez Watkins (126), Jesse Dixon (150), Jacob Supinski (157), Teagan Gratkowski (175), Christopher Kearney (215) and Chijioke Eule (285).

The Buccaneers picked up pins from Vincent Jenkins (120) and Hunter Durham (132).

Lake Forest 51, McKean 24: The Spartans notched four first-period pins in the non-conference victory.

Winning by first-period fall were Trevor Silver (126), Jerusalem Howard (132), Case Dempsey (144) and Cullen Parsell (215). Nurrideen Ahmad-Statts (150), Shawn Ferrell (165) and Brogan Thomas (175) also wo by fall.

Lake Forest 64, Odessa 16: Jacob Pinder (126) had a 37-second pin while Coen Dempsey (150) added a 56-second fall for the Spartans.

Lake Forest’s other pins came from Jerusalem Howard (132), Case Dempsey (144), Nurrideen Ahmad-Statts (157), Shawn Ferrell (165) and Cullen Parsell (215).

Indian River 64, Upper Darby 12: Terrell Lewis (285) capped off the Indians’ non-conference win with a 49-second pin.

Also winning by fall for IR were Amani Marsiglin (113), Tyler McManus (120), Steven Mayfield (126), Kyree Knight (132), Angel Mora Salas (144), Jayvion Chandler (165) and Jack Jestice (190).

Girls’ basketball

Caesar Rodney 49, Dover 47: The Riders edged the Senators to avenge a seven-point loss to Dover in December.

Polytech 48, Seaford 40: Kallie Hopkins collected 22 points and 15 rebounds to pace the Panthers to the win.

Sky Naranjo added seven points, 10 rebounds and three blocks for Polytech, which led by nine going into the fourth quarter.

The Blue Jays got 26 points from Amira Tingle and 10 from Kimora Cornish-Baine.

Sussex Central 41, Delmar 34: The Golden Knights used a 21-10 run in the third quarter to take control.

Blair Darmstadter tallied 14 points for Central.
La’Najah Johnson had 11 points for the Wildcats with Tylah Brown scoring 10.

College basketball

MEN, Morgan State 75, Delaware State 65: The MEAC rival Bears avenged last week’s loss to the Hornets with the win in the HBCU Legacy Classic at the Prudential Center.

Reserve Khyrie Staten led three double-figure scorers for Delaware State (4-17) with 17 points. Brandon State and Martaz Robinson added 16 points each for the Hornets. The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for Delaware State, its longest since the 2016-17 season.

Delaware State was plagued by 21 turnovers in the contest, leading to 29 points for Morgan State (12-11).

The Bears led by 17 points on two occasions in the second half.

WOMEN, Towson 67, Delaware 65: Former Caesar Rodney High Kylie Kornegay-Lucas tallied 17 points and nine rebounds to lead the Tigers (7-3 CAA, 13-8 overall).

Jewel Smalls led Delaware (4-5 CAA, 11-9 overall) with 15 points (5-for-9 from three-point range) and seven rebounds. Klarke Sconiers scored 13 points and pulled down six rebounds and blocked four shots, while Nakiyah Mays-Prince scored 12 points.
