After trailing much of the contest, Delaware State rallied in the final two minutes for an 82-75 win over Morgan State in MEAC men’s basketball on Saturday evening at Memorial Hall.

The victory in the Hornets’ season finale gave DelState (1-11 MEAC, 3-16) its first conference win of the winter as well as its first win over an NCAA Division I opponent. The Hornets also snapped a nine-game losing streak against the Bears (7-5 MEAC, 12-7 overall).

DelState took the lead for good at 74-73 on a jumper from Myles Carter with 1:42 remaining. Carter then hit a three-pointer with 38 seconds left to give the Hornets a 77-73 advantage.

All told, DSU out-scored the Bears, 50-39, in the second half.

Carter, a senior, collected 24 points and 11 rebounds in his finale for the Hornets, who aren’t eligible for this year’s MEAC Tournament. John Stansbury (16), Dominik Fragala (12) and Ameer Bennett (10) also reached double figures.

Sophomore Mike Robinson added four goals and three assists. Charlie Kitchen chipped in with five goals and two assists.

Senior goalie Matt Kilkeary made nine saves for the Hens, who scored on four extra-man opportunities.

The fourth quarter was all Delaware, as the Hens didn’t allow a goal and Kitchen scored three of the five goals.
