Lewes' Beebe Healthcare to resume elective procedures

Posted

LEWES — Beebe Healthcare announced Wednesday it has resumed elective surgical procedures which require an overnight stay in the hospital.

The health system paused these elective procedures on Sept. 14 due to an increase in COVID-19 hospitalizations. In a press release on Wednesday, it said the volume of hospitalized COVID patients has decreased to a level that allows Beebe leadership to make this decision to resume.

“This continues to be a very challenging time, although we are encouraged and hopeful that this downward trend in COVID hospitalizations will continue,” said Dr. David A. Tam, president & CEO of Beebe Healthcare, in a statement. “Beebe leadership remains committed to the healthcare needs of the community and to supporting Team Beebe needs as we move through this pandemic.”

The press release added Beebe will continually monitor the fluid surge, making determinations as needed based on COVID-19 hospitalization volume.

“Beebe continues to strongly urge everyone to get vaccinated,” the health system said in a statement. “The COVID vaccine is free and readily available through the state and data shows it is safe and effective in preventing serious illness and death. Getting vaccinated is the most important thing the public can do to protect themselves and others.”

Beebe is offering vaccines, third doses, boosters and COVID-19 tests at primary care provider offices, walk-in clinics and specific temporary clinics throughout Sussex County. More information is available here.
