Letter to the Editor: Poorly planned road construction hinders Sussex residents

Posted

Editor’s note: The following was sent to the Delaware Department of Transportation, Sussex County Council members, the Sussex County Planning & Zoning Commission and members of the press, as well as state representatives.

In Rehoboth Beach at Mulberry Road, the intersection construction has created monstrous traffic on Del. 24.

My question is, why was it not completed in the evening?

It’s mind-boggling that the Delaware Department of Transportation seems to continue to allow inconvenient road repair scheduling, particularly on Del. 24 throughout Millsboro, Angola Road and Robinsonville Road. Those of us who need to travel these roads are beset with multiple road closures that should have not been jointly scheduled, especially during the in-season period?

There are no alternative roads. We are paralyzed here.

Where’s the consideration for your constituents, for the ill and seniors that need to have emergency medical care issues dealt with?

It’s a life-and-death situation that’s callously being ignored.

Time for some common sense, please.

The welfare of the public needs to be front and center, instead the profits of a handful of developers.

It’s worsening every day without letup and needs immediate reevaluation.

Once again, the continued omission of an adequate public facilities ordinance (ensuring that essential public infrastructure is available to support new development) by the council Planning & Zoning Commission and is a disservice to the county.

It needs to be adopted with strict guidelines for the people instead of profiteers.
