SEAFORD — A 35-year-old Laurel man was arrested on weapon, drug and traffic charges following a vehicle stop Wednesday, Delaware State Police spokeswoman Master Cpl. Heather Pepper said.
Patrick E. Stephenson was driving a Ford F-150 pickup in the area of Baker Mill Road, when he was stopped for an expired registration at 4:20 p.m., authorities said. He was found to have an active warrant out of Justice of the Peace Court 4, Seaford.
Mr. Stephenson was taken into custody without incident, and an inventory search of the vehicle was conducted prior to it being towed. Located in the Ford was drug paraphernalia, approximately 0.01 grams of heroin and a large machete, police said.
The suspect was transported to DSP Troop 5, Bridgeville. Once the trooper removed him from the back of the patrol vehicle, a used hypodermic needle was found in the police car’s seat cushion, police said.
Mr. Stephenson was charged with tampering with physical evidence, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, possession of a controlled substance, driving under the influence of drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia and expired tags.
He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 2, Rehoboth Beach, and released on a $3,600 unsecured bond.
