Roundup: Laurel defeats Odessa 49-0 in 1A football state quarterfinals

Kylse Wilson ran for three touchdowns, including a pair in the first quarter, as top-seeded Laurel High cruised to a 49-0 win over No. 8 Odessa in the DIAA Class 1A football state quarterfinals on Friday night.

The Bulldogs (9-2) advance to next weekend’s semifinals where they will face the winner of Saturday’s quarterfinal game between No. 5 Indian River at fourth-seeded St. Andrews.

Laurel beat the Ducks 42-0 during the regular season. Odessa finishes its first season competing at the varsity level at 3-8.

Javier White added two scoring runs for the Bulldogs, including a 61-yarder. Wilson’s longest touchdown run was from 57 yards.

Laurel led 21-0 after the first quarter before earning its third shutout of the season.

College basketball

WOMEN, Delaware 87, Eastern Michigan 72: Senior Jasmine Dickey poured in a career-high 48 points as the Blue Hens (5-1) won their opener at Florida International’s Thanksgiving Classic tournament.

Dickey’s point total was second on the program’s all-time list behind only the 54 points that Elena Delle Donne netted against James Madison in 2010. Before Friday, Delle Donne had been the only UD women’s player to score 40 or more points in a game, doing six times.

Dickey sank 19-of-36 shots from the floor as well as 9-of-12 free throws in 39 minutes.

Delaware (5-1) closed out the victory by out-scoring Eastern Michigan, 27-12, in the fourth quarter.

The Hens face Chicago State (1-5) Saturday at noon in Florida.
