DOVER — Kent County posted more than 100 COVID-19 hospitalizations for the first time since Jan. 18, 2021, and the state posted a record number of virus hospitalizations for the sixth consecutive day.

The Delaware Division of Public Health reported 629 individuals hospitalized with COVID-19 in Wednesday’s update — an increase of 27 over the previous record set a day prior. Sixty-six of those cases are considered critical, DPH said.

New Castle County and Sussex County each set a new all-time high for COVID-19 hospitalizations, with 376 and 151 respectively. Kent County’s hospitalizations increased by nine compared to the day prior, up to 102 which is near its record of 112 set on Jan. 12, 2020.

All hospitalization data via DPH is as of Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Delaware’s new COVID-19 cases were under the 2,000 mark for the second time in the last seven days. DPH reported 1,329 new positives, bringing the state’s total to 192,968.

The state is averaging 2,619.1 new cases per day over the last week. That includes an all-time high of 3,537 cases on Dec. 31.

No new COVID-19 deaths were announced in Wednesday’s report as that number remained at 2,286. Delaware has not recorded a COVID-19-related death since Tuesday, Dec. 28, according to DPH statistics.
