Kent County Public Library reopens Monday

Posted

DOVER — Kent County Public Library will reopen its doors to the public beginning Monday at 10 a.m., while curbside service for pickup and drop-off of materials will continue through March.

The library building will be open from 10 a.m.-noon and 2-6 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, along with 1-5 p.m. Saturdays.

Patrons are asked to keep their visits to a maximum of one hour. Computer use will be limited to 45 minutes a day. Once the library’s 25-person capacity is reached, visitors must wait until others exit before entering the building.

Visitors will be health-screened prior to entering the building, the county said. Properly worn masks are required, and contactless temperatures will be taken. Safe spacing will be observed.

The library’s meeting room is closed to the public, and programs are still taking place virtually.

“We are so excited to welcome our patrons back to the library once again,” said County Librarian Dr. Hilary Welliver in a news release. “We look forward to seeing and serving people while making our building and mobile library safe places to visit.”

Kent County’s mobile library will also be back on the road, making weekly stops Tuesdays through Thursdays. For now, guests are not permitted on the unit, but staff will deliver to vehicles items that customers reserved and checked out. As the mobile library is a Wi-Fi hot spot, staff can also place orders for the following week’s visit.

Kent County’s mobile library schedule in March includes:

  • Tuesdays: Byler’s, Dover, 10:30-11:30 a.m.; Hartly Volunteer Fire Co., noon-1 p.m.; Cheswold Volunteer Fire Co., 2:30-3:30 p.m.
  • Wednesdays: Modern Maturity Center, Dover, 10:30-11:30 a.m.; Kent County Administration Complex, Dover, noon-1 p.m.; Spring Meadow, Smyrna, 2-3 p.m.
  • Thursdays: Delaware Veterans Home, Milford, 10:30-11:30 a.m.; Farmington Volunteer Fire Co., noon-1 p.m.; Felton Fire Co., 2-3 p.m.

For curbside pickup, patrons can call 744-1919 an hour prior to arrival to give staff time to check materials out, bag and tag the items and place them by the door at the north end of the library building. When patrons arrive to collect their bagged items, they should call 252-5922, and staff will deliver their checked-out, bagged items to their cars.
