Kent County goes purple for Substance Abuse Awareness Month

Posted

DOVER — Kent County Levy Court named September as Substance Abuse Awareness Month at its meeting Tuesday.

The Rev. Carol Harris of The Vines Community Project was present to accept the resolution.

The Kent County Department of Public Safety’s Emergency Medical Services reported that it responded to more than 1,200 calls for overdoses in 2021. That number could be topped this year, as the amount stands at 766 so far.

For the fifth year, Levy Court will participate in Project Purple with the state of Delaware, the city of Dover, The Vines and other Delaware businesses. The initiative includes purple lighting at the county’s Administrative Complex, Recreation Center and Public Library throughout September.

Also, most offices in the Administrative Complex have decorated areas in purple.
