REHOBOTH BEACH — A 28-year-old Houston man was arrested on multiple criminal charges following a Monday night pursuit, authorities said.

Christopher Johnson Jr. was initially found to be driving a Hyundai Elantra on Rehoboth Avenue Extended with an expired license at approximately 10:58 p.m., according to Delaware State Police spokeswoman Master Cpl. Heather Pepper. Police attempted a traffic stop, and the vehicle continued traveling through Rehoboth Beach.

The vehicle came to a stop on Baltimore Street, and police said Mr. Johnson failed to obey orders to exit the vehicle and get on the ground. He was taken into custody after continuing to walk toward a trooper and being tased, police said.

Police said Mr. Johnson was not injured and was medically cleared.

A vehicle search yielded a Polymer 80 Incorporated 9mm handgun and a handgun holster, Cpl. Pepper said.

During the incident, Mr. Johnson’s 1-year-old son was secured in the rear seat of the vehicle, police said. He was turned over to a family member at the scene.

Mr. Johnson was charged with disregarding a police officer signal, endangering the welfare of a child, possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, driving while suspended and resisting arrest. He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $170,000 cash bond.
