DOVER — The number of individuals in Delaware hospitals with COVID-19 dropped below 30 for the first time since mid-August of last year.

The Delaware Division of Public Health reported 29 COVID-19 hospitalizations in its daily update Sunday. That is the lowest mark since there were 29 individuals hospitalized with the virus on Aug. 16, 2020.

Hospitalizations dropped by 14 compared to the day prior. The DPH said three of the 29 are considered critical cases. All hospitalization numbers reflect data as of Saturday at 6 p.m.

New Castle County’s hospitalizations are down to 15 — a drop of 11 compared to the day prior. Sussex County is at 11 COVID-19 hospitalizations while Kent County has the fewest in the state with three.

No new COVID-19 related deaths were reported by the DPH on Sunday as the total number remained at 1,677. There were 60 new positive cases of the virus, bringing the overall total to 109,126.

Delaware’s seven-day rolling average for percentage of positive tests is down to 2% — well below the World Health Organization’s recommended mark of 5%. Data for percentage of positive tests is as of Thursday at 6 p.m. due to a two-day lag to account for the time delay between the date of the test and the date the DPH receives the test result.

According to the DPH’s vaccine tracker, there have been 935,693 doses of COVID-19 vaccines administered in Delaware.

A total of 439,737 persons are fully vaccinated, including 397,465 Delawareans. An additional 97,004 individuals, including 86,978 Delawareans, are partially vaccinated and are awaiting their second dose of a two-dose vaccine series. Non-residents can be vaccinated in Delaware if they either work in the First State or receive their healthcare here.

The DPH said 60.8% of Delawareans age 16 or older have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine as of Saturday at 11:59 p.m.
