Homicide near Christiana Mall brings arrest

NEWARK — A 24-year-old Pennsylvania woman was arrested and charged with manslaughter in connection with a homicide near the Christiana Mall on Monday, authorities said.

Delaware State Police spokesman Cpl. Jason Hatchell said a 27-year-old woman was found unresponsive with an apparent gunshot wound to the upper body in the driver’s seat of a vehicle. The Ford Fusion had reportedly collided into a metal guardrail in the area of the Target store, police said. Troopers responded to the scene at approximately 4:08 p.m.

Police determined that a passenger, later identified as Shaidiah McNeair of Philadelphia, had exited the vehicle prior to troopers’ arrival. Ms. McNeair was located and taken into custody without incident, Cpl. Hatchell said.

Troopers searched the area and located a plastic bag along an embankment that contained a handgun, according to authorities.

Ms. McNeair was also charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. She was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11, New Castle, and committed to Delores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution, New Castle, on a $250,000 cash bond.

Police asked anyone with information to contact Detective Grassi of the DSP Homicide Unit by calling 365-8441. Information may also be provided by calling Delaware Crime Stoppers at 800-TIP-3333 or by visiting here.
