Another heatwave is passing through Delaware.

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for portions of the state for Thursday and Friday. The heat advisory is for New Castle County and will run from 11 a.m. Thursday until 8 p.m. Friday.

A hazardous weather outlook was issued for Kent County as hot conditions are expected that could result in heat exhaustion with prolonged exposure, according to the National Weather Service.

The heat index in Dover is expected to be 102 degrees. The National Weather Service said record-high temperatures are possible.

The highest temperatures and heat indices are expected to occur today. Low temperatures in the mid-70s Thursday night will not provide much relief from the heat, the National Weather Service said.

It encouraged residents to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.

The National Weather Service also said to take extra precautions if working or spending time outside. When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening and wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing.
