DOVER - Zachary Groome, 26, of Hartly, was charged with drug dealing and weapon offenses following a welfare check at a Wawa on Wednesday, Dover Police said.
According to spokesperson Master Cpl. Ryan Schmid, police received a call at 1:46 a.m. for a welfare check at the store at 1450 Forrest Avenue. Responding officers found Mr. Groome inside a vehicle parked at the gas pumps, authorities said.
Police said officers immediately smelled marijuana inside the vehicle and a search was conducted. A Glock 19 9mm handgun was located, police said, along with approximately 55 grams of marijuana, a digital scale and $794.
Mr. Groome was taken into custody without incident.
Charges against Mr. Groome included possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Mr. Groome was released on an own recognizance bond.
