Harrington man charged with attempted burglary

HARRINGTON — A 47-year-old Harrington man was charged with attempted burglary after an alleged incident on Feb. 27, Delaware State Police spokeswoman Master Cpl. Heather Pepper said.

According to authorities, an attempted burglary was made to a shed on Yellow Wood Drive, along with a reported theft of a security camera from outside a residence.

Michael Jopp, who police said lives within the same development, was identified as a person of interest, according to Cpl. Pepper.

On Tuesday, Mr. Jopp was taken into custody without incident, and a search warrant of his residence was conducted, police said. Located inside the residence, in addition to the stolen property, was an AK-47-style rifle, according to authorities,

Mr. Jopp was charged with possession of a firearm by person prohibited, third-degree attempted burglary and theft under $1,500. He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 2 and was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $10,00 secured bond for the weapon charge.

Mr. Jopp was given a $2,500 unsecured bond for the attempted burglary and theft charges.
