CRISFIELD - H. Gene Riggin, Sr. died peacefully at Alice B. Tawes Nursing Home on Wednesday, January 24, 2024.
He was the son of the late Herman Ellis Riggin and Lenora Tyler Riggin of Crisfield. Gene was married to the late Doris Swift Riggin of Crisfield for 58 years.
Gene was a waterman in his early life, and later joined the Maryland State Marine Police in 1963, until his retirement in 1988. He was a life member of the Crisfield Elks Lodge #1044 and Asbury United Methodist Church. His most recent membership was the McDonald's Varsity Coffee Club. You could find Gene most mornings there, or running local errands around town. Gene was a talented woodworker and enjoyed making special pieces for his family to enjoy in their homes. Gene loved a new car or truck, and many people waited anxiously to buy his used vehicles. He loved his home and yard, and spending time with Doris. He will be greatly missed by close friends and family.
Gene leaves behind his oldest son, Herman G. "Sonny" Riggin, Jr. and wife Bev of Salisbury; grandson, Miles Riggin of Salisbury; granddaughter, Elizabeth Jackson and husband Bryan of Colonial Beach, VA; granddaughter, Amanda Riggin of Indiana; five great-granddaughters, Willow, Makenna, Reagan, Harlow, and Quinn, all of Colonial Beach, VA; daughter-in-law, Karen Riggin of Indiana; sisters-in-law, Betty Boyd and Hazel Swift; and nieces, Connie Gerald Couser of Tennessee, and Pat Landon, Gary Gerald, and Michael Lewis, all of Crisfield.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Steven Riggin in 2020; and three sisters, Clarice Lewis, Lenore Jones, and Doris Gerald.
A memorial service officiated by Rev. Stephen S. Willing was Thursday, February 1, 2024 at 1 PM at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral where a visitation was from 12-1PM. Interment was private in Asbury Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations could be made to the National Resource Police Death Benefit Fund, c/o Scott Richardson, 5246 Onley Road, Girdletree, MD 21829.
