Guest Commentary: Dover councilman thanks Bayhealth for heart help

Posted

William “Bill” Hare represents the 2nd District on Dover City Council.

The quality of our lives often depends on our choices. The fact is that I chose to live in Dover over 40 years ago. I made a decision at one point in time to run for the Dover City Council. The voters have chosen me to serve council and committees for 20-plus years.

When my heart chose to act up, I made the best decision I could ever make by choosing the Bayhealth medical team to save my life and permit me to continue to serve the citizens of Dover.

For the record, I was admitted to Bayhealth Hospital in May 2022 with a heart attack. I spent four days in the hospital. I was brought back in July 2022 for a shock treatment to get my heart out of atrial fibrillation. What followed was 36 sessions from late August through November in Cardiac Rehab. Then, on Nov. 8, I had an implantable cardioverter defibrillator inserted, a process which took seven hours.

The nurses in the cardiac wing, the doctors and staff when they did all the tests, the Cardiac Rehab people, the nurses and doctors that did the insertion and took care for the recovery time that day were all wonderful.

With everything that has happened, as well as my triple bypass surgery in 2011, if I could have gone anywhere else where the treatment, care, attention and professionalism could have been any better, I do not know where that is. I owe my life to these professionals.

I am writing this tribute not only to say thanks to this marvelous team but to point out what an excellent facility we have here in Dover, and it continues to grow as a major asset in the fabric of the life of our city.
